In einer Pressemeldung von vergangenem Montag verlautet Amazon, dass ihr E-Book-Reader Kindle und der dafür verkaufte Content (E-Books) durchschlagende Erfolge seien. Einige Vergleichszahlen (die sich mir, so muss ich zugeben, nicht restlos erschließen) klingen beeindruckend, z.B.:

Recent milestones for Kindle books include: Over the past three months, for every 100 hardcover books Amazon.com has sold, it has sold 143 Kindle books. Over the past month, for every 100 hardcover books Amazon.com has sold, it has sold 180 Kindle books.

Das ist allerdings kein Zeichen von Medienwandel, denn nicht nur die Verkaufszahlen von “Kindle books” stiegen, sondern auch die gedruckter Bücher. Zitat aus der Pressemeldung:

… even while our hardcover sales continue to grow, the Kindle format has now overtaken the hardcover format.

Die American Publishers Association hat für das erste Halbjahr 2010 einen Umsatzzuwachs bei gebundenen Büchern von 22 Prozent festgestellt, Taschenbücher verkaufen sich noch besser. Die Pressemeldung von Amazon bezieht sich nur auf gebundene Ausgaben.

Und bevor Sie fragen: Nein, ich habe keinen Kindle. Ich kann keinen Apparat kaufen, der etwas mit Büchern zu tun hat hat und für den sich jemand (möglicherweise ein Texter) die Bezeichnung “anzünden” ausgedacht hat.
